We needed a week away after a challenging few months with our senior dog. I'm not sure which was harder, rehabbing my own knee surgery a few years ago, or helping with Henry's!

So grateful to Dr. Rabs and the team at Caledon Mountain Veterinary Hospital. They saved our dog, and provided outstanding care for him (and for us) every step of the way! ❤️

I'm not keeping duplicates. I'm not saving broken items "just in case".

Our stuff is part of what keeps us stuck, and makes the thought of moving feel overwhelming.

Confession time: I'm a pack rat, and letting go of things has always been a struggle. The older I get the more I accumulate, and the harder it is to stay organized.

My goal this year is to make small but frequent efforts to declutter whatever is right in front of me. It's not always possible to dedicate an entire weekend to filling carefully-labeled bins. Sometimes it's just admitting that I don't know when, or if, I will ever be a size 8 again - and clearing out that "aspirational" section of my closet!

I donated one bag of clothes and a couple of books today - two gold stars for me! The clothing donation bin and the free little library are both literally on my own street, so this was an easy starting point.

Letting go can be hard...but I know from past experience that the purging can also be a bit addictive! Whether you're thinking of selling your house, or just want a more enjoyable living space, decluttering is a critical first step.

It's also a very affordable alternative to therapy!

Thanks for the new mug, Mom!

Not gonna lie...the last week of nursing our post-op senior dog has taken a toll on everyone. It's definitely reinforced my opinion that any future dogs in this house must be small enough to pick up and carry!

Fingers crossed that we have a break from big storms and snowbanks for the next leg (see what I did there?) of Henry's rehab. ❤️🙏

I can't say enough good things about the team at C

I can't say enough good things about the team at Caledon Mountain Vet Hospital, and the care that Henry has received. He had TPLO surgery last week to stabilize his knee after tearing his ACL, meniscus, and repair a subluxating patella. In the weird ways of the universe, it's been 10 years since my own knee surgery, and I was renovating a house just a stone's throw from this clinic at the time! Henry's scar is way more impressive than mine.

Our vet referred us to this clinic because the surgery would be more affordable than in Toronto. They do 8 of these every week, and said it's the most common surgery they do aside from spays/neuters. Who knew?!

They gave us a full cost breakdown and rehab plan at the initial consult, and the fees included all imaging, all meds, and follow-up care. The staff has been in touch 3x after surgery to check on Henry's progress and answer questions, which was so helpful. Now if we could just get an uninterrupted night's sleep... 🤞

True to form, Henry has never lost his interest in food for a nanosecond, which we're taking as an excellent sign. ❤️

Every time I complete a home project, I learn some

Every time I complete a home project, I learn something new...and acquire at least one new tool! 😉

If I'd let my 1936 leaded glass windows weather another damaging winter, I think I'd be looking at a replacement instead of a repair.

Thanks to the non-toxic soy gel stripper from Blue Bear, my heat gun, my palm sander, and my stubbornness, I feel a real sense of accomplishment. And there are no shortage of interior projects for me to keep working on this winter!

If you've been procrastinating about starting your own home maintenance list, perhaps start with something a little less time-consuming than this. Nothing is more motivating than proudly checking something off that list!

Let's face it...whether you're thinking of selling, or planning on staying, we all want our homes to have curb appeal!

It's easy to develop "selective blindness" over time. Or maybe you simply avoid the area with that project you've been meaning to get to for the last five, ten, or sixteen years (who, me?). Before you know it, that peeling paint that was just unsightly is becoming a more serious issue.

Not only do you want to protect your investment, but in the current real estate market, buyers don't want to take on the home repairs you didn't get around to. They have other options.

Perhaps I'm guilty of thinking "I can probably do that myself" too often, but sometimes I've been right. It's important to hire out the big stuff (like replacing my knob and tube wiring!), but learning about lead paint removal and re-glazing leaded glass windows is the kind of thing YouTube was made for!

If you want some professional advice on where to focus your time and money, a consultation is always free. And if you need to borrow a tool for your project, I've amassed a pretty impressive collection at this point!

I have clear memories of Stevie Nicks' voice from my early childhood, hearing Rumours on the radio and on my mom's record player. Hers was the first 45 I ever bought - Stand Back, in 1983. The first opportunity I had to see her in concert was Fleetwood Mac's tour in 1987...but I came down with mono, and my friends had the nerve to go without me. 😕

I snuck my camera into concerts in my waistband (and rolls of film in my bra) back in the day, and my photos of Stevie adorned my walls throughout university. Can't wait to see her tonight - 77 years old, and she's still that cool chick!

It's a little distressing to have been a fan since Sarah McLachlan was an ingenue, and now she's an icon. I swear we were all 25 just a minute ago...

Last night's concert was transcendent. If you have the chance to see Sarah, and especially in an intimate venue like Massey Hall - go! I took a few more video clips than I normally would for a friend who couldn't make it. If you also missed it, enjoy this small taste of Sarah's show (and a flashback to 1995, when I used to sneak my camera into concerts in my pants). Class act that she is, she invited her opening act Tiny Habits on stage at the end to perform together - they were outstanding too! She is all about lifting up and supporting other musicians.

New music being added to my playlist immediately!

I find this season so hard! I've got many pots with plants that are still flourishing, and I can't bear to let them die yet.

Last year I managed to keep a few herbs and flowers going all winter long, but they take up a lot of room in the she shed. 😬

Anyone else feel this gardener's guilt?!
